need help setting up spectrum

i am trying to take an accurate snapshot of my reverse bandwidth. i am hooking the spectrum up to an open out port of the 8way where my RX splits to feed my CMTS and QPSK. what should the settings on my spectrum be? ie. attenuation, reference level, vertical scale, reference offset etc... any help would be great
