Re: Digital Boxes

Yes this can be a problem. The problem is that with this type of system the telco line is being used to transmit PPV purchase information back to the billing system etc., usually in the wee morning hours. A non responder means this data is not retrieved for purchases and you can see why management doesn't like non responders. PPV will eventually become inactive but management doesn't like that either because it eliminates PPV options. I would say to ask around about this. A phone # ordering process may or may not be an option with this type of system. The manager should know but will also likely insist that all boxes have a permanent phone line jack at its location (not a line running across the living room floor that you know is going to be disconnected). And that a service call is performed on all nonresponders to see why they don't respond. Phone line boxes are a pain in the a** and a 2-way cable system is a much better idea but there can be more to it than just activating the 2-way plant. Boxes may have to be changed out depending on the model used and there are other considerations as well that all combined mean Big Bucks for a cable system to have to fork over to upgrade. There lies the real problem why you aren't there already. Money$$. Some systems, especially smaller ones, are not going to change anytime soon.
