I usually just lurk here and rarely post, but this is ridiculous.
I work for a consulting firm (hubby is in cable and I used to be, in another life). We get resumes day in and day out, by the hundreds and sometimes thousands. Each e-mailed resume (those that don't go straight to our website and put it into the database while applying to a specific job) received an *automated response* that was more than simple to set up in our e-mail. The excuses I've seen here are pretty lame. Yes, we get a ton of resumes that just don't qualify for any position we have, but they still get the courtesy of a response. To do otherwise would show that we're unprofessional, which we are not.
It's simply common courtesy, but I've found that to be rare in the cable industry.
