Yes, granted, there is not SALES TAX on the equipment, but when you get your check from DTV, do you not count the reimbursement for the equipment as income? Therefore it is taxable.
At least have some logic to your arguments. Some people on this board are not the brightest people in the world, but do not mislead them into thinking that ALL installation companies and ALL vendors are money grubbing whores.
Oh, one thing you forgot to mention to everyone, not only do we have to pay our own income taxes, we also have to match our employees FICA, Social Security and pay our share of their unemployment (5.14% of their salary). Not to mention having to pay workmans comp. insurance.
A little known fact with workman's comp ins rules and regs.....if a sub contractor does not have their own workmans comp ins matching 500,000 / 500,000 / 500,000 (what we are mandated to carry) and they only contract from 1 company, that company, the "employer" must carry it for them. Look it up for your self, contact your states insurance commission yourself.
Here is another thing, who pays for the re-installs when a "professional" installer goes out and totally screws up an install? We do.
Who is the ones that goes out at all times and does the installs when the "professional" installer refuses to do a job because the house stinks badly, or the crawl space is too muddy? We do.
What about the jobs that are in BFE (bum f**k Egypt), where it is a single setter 3 hrs from anything else that day or even that week, who do you think pay's the tech an extra $50 or $60 to do the job because it needs to be done. We do, not DTV.
Who do you think pays for service calls? If it is with in 30 days of installation, even if it is equipment related, DTV does not pay us, but we pay the installers. Where do you think that money comes from? The air? We pay it out of our "enormous profits".
Medical benefits and savings plans (401 type). Our techs (even subs) have the option of enrolling into our buy down group rate for medical benefits. Who do you think helps pay for this so that people have health care at affordable rates? We do.
An entry level tech (0-2 yrs exp) should make 20-25 K a year base AFTER any expences. That is $10-$12 hr avg.
A mid exp tech (2-4 yrs exp) should make 25-28 K a year base, again AFTER expences. Thats what??? $13-$15 hr avg.
A senior tech (5+ yrs exp) should make 28-35 K a year base, again after expences. That is $600-$750 a week clear.
This buisness is a changing.....long over due and much needed.
