240-foot fall killed man
Fort Gibson man who died after a fall from a tower fell farther than officials reported, said Gordon Hughey, the man's supervisor.
John Paul Yen, 26, was working for Texoma Contracting, a Muskogee company owned by Randy Scott, when he fell about 240 feet Tuesday and hit a building, Hughey said.
"He was moving from one side of the tower to the other," he said.
The communications tower was about 360 feet tall and about four feet wide. The crew had been on the job about two weeks, Hughey said.
Hughey was not sure what caused Yen to fall.
"He had a harness on - nothing wrong with the harness," he said.
Hughey described as a "real friendly guy."
"Everybody got along with him," he said. "He was an excellent worker. He was very knowledgeable about his trade."
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Foster-Petering Funeral Home in Muskogee.
