Re: Attn: Fiber Splicers

Here Here !! We Are Right With You Big Jim. Its Has Reached The Point Were Its Absolutely Rediculous What Some Big Customers And Primes Think They Can Get Their Fiber Spliced For These Days. Downright Professionally Offensive The Way That These People Have And Continue To Discount And Demean The Labor And Knowledge Involved, The Real World Costs Of Equipment And Insurance, The Time And Dedication It Takes To Splice, Test And Document Fiber Optic Systems With The Kind Of Quality And Attention To Detail That Should Be There.
It Typically Used To Be Cable Mso's Offering Big Fat Construction Contracts Thinking That The Primes Would Focus On And Make Their Profit (Dollars) On The U/G And/Or Aerial Const. And Then Let Them Worry About Trying To Address The Fiber Splicing And Testing With The (Pennies) That Are Leftover. For A While This Seemed To Work Mostly Because We In The Fiber Splicing Business Were Starving And We Let It Work........... Now In Addition To These Out Of Touch Cable Mso Upper Echelon People We Have The Verizons And Other Large Ftth/P Customers Following The Same Path.
Alot Of These New Ftth/P Systems Are Wanting Strand Level Rear Easement Splicing With An Abundance Of Mid-Sheath (Suicide) Entries On Large Count Ribbon Cables To Pick A Few Individual Fibers Out Then Re-Ribbonize And Mass Fuse And Or Single Fuse 2 Or 3 Loose Fibers. All The While Following Very Detailed And Ellaborate Assembly, Routing And/Or Installation Guidlines...............All Of This Can Be Done Readily Enough (Dont Get Me Wrong) But Why Do These Companies Expect This Work To Get Done In A Professional Manner At Positively Insulting Numbers ????
I Believe All Of Us Fiber Splicing Contractors Should Unite In A Movement Together And Stop Allowing These Entities To Continue To Rape And Pilage Our Industry And Chosen Fortay. Like You Big Jim All Of Our Equipment Has Been Long Since Paid-Off And Will Get Lots Of Dust On Them Before We Work For The Pennies That There Throwing Out Right Now. We Are Diversifing Into Other Areas In Efforts To Survive And Strongly Suggest That Any And All Other Fiber Splicing Contractors Do The Same. Maybe Months Down The Road When Deadlines Are Not Getting Met And Investors Are Losing Money, And Some Of These Out Of Touch Upper Echelon Phone And Cable System Big-Wigs Start Losing There Cushy Overpaid White-Collar Take Dollars From People In The Field Doing The Work And Keep Them For Yourself Jobs........Prices For Fiber Splicing Might Start Getting Real, Again !!!!!!!
