Re: BPL "Broadband over Power Lines"

I said it once, I will say it again: There is NO WAY this piece of **** is going to fly. Not now. Not ever.

That being said, some of the posts on this subject are confusing several different technologies. True BPL is a data service trunked over unshielded, medium-power (up to 40,000 volt) electrical distribution systems. The only benefit to it is that the electric lines are already in place, saving the cost of building a network. The fatal drawback to it is that it carries its data service over unshielded wires and has the effect of operating as an RF signal from 2 to 80 MHz.

If you or I began transmitting ANYTHING at this output level, over this wide a frequency range, over even a small area, much less thousands of miles of electric lines, we would be shut down by the FCC.

Say what you will, invest in what you will, hope for what you want, this is one more no-brainer on a one-way trip to being forgotten. The sooner the better.
