The more you coil your ground-ther more resistance. Have you ever watched a TelCo guy/Gal wrap up the could either inside that box or the plate? this is called a "resistance loop"...stops static and elrctrical kill during over charge.
I have not had Much professional experience on the matter, but doing 90's or greater has to take on consideration that surge can from within either direction or both within the cruxifice, whatever. The key is to stop (resist) surge. Also 90's are usually pot poles and need all the surge/ground penetration one can get. If kill is not stopped there, then there is one mess down the line.
Soda cans or baseballs? never heard of sutch a thing, but I betchya that is all about saturation for coil resistance. are you grounding from EVERY pole establishment- RU a TELCO or CATV?
