Re: On V-groove vs Core alignment

I believe the 30 S and 40S are HDCM. I know the 16S and ribbon splicers are V groove. Profile alignment , aka V groove, has a machined groove that both fibers sit in. It looks at the outside edges of both fibers then brings them together (Z axis) and fuses. HDCM looks at the cores of each fiber and aligns them before fusing. Since fibers are not perfectly round and cores are not perfectly in the middle of a fiber, HDCM is preferred over profile. Since cores aren't perfectly round or 8.3um in size, gainers will happen with HDCM. We have methods to ensure splices will average eliminating return after testing, which is the real killer.
