We're the bastard children of Telco and Electric

I'm currently doggin' it for a low voltage outfit. I'm running wires, bending pipe, splicing, fishing, ladders, same B.S. I do the same work as the next guy, but he makes 10 dollars more an hour than I do. He's worth it. I can work circles around him, but they pull job tickets using his licence. $$$ When review time comes, he gets what he wants or walks and they know it.

He has a licence to install and design fire alam/low voltage systems in four states. He's 40 and going to school for one more year to get his electrical journeyman's licence. He's already got the hours. After that, $25 when its slow, $50 when its busy. Electricians bill out in N.E. right now for $90 an hour out of the phone book.

Yeah, we're pretty much the bastard child of Telephone and Electric.

The licence doesn't prove you can do it. It means you should be able to do it. It's a protection of the trade. Without it, they can hire any hack.

The hard part ain't doin it. Hard part is making money doing it.
