Re: fiber??

I just enrolled with a school called "The Light Brigade" for fiber optic training. They will give me an overview with single mode, multi mode, ribbon and the latest industry stuff. I work for a large communication company and don't work with fiber in the field. I am afraid of where the company is heading though. I have an education grant through the company and want to use it on learning everything I can about fiber. If my job goes away, I want something to fall back on. I was a splicer of coax and copper before so I have related experience. Do you think haveing certificates will help without actual fiber splicing experience?
