Great story ....
I fell for the "ride your safety through your D rings" bull back in the early '70's when I was bullet proof.
Picture a canyon on the Oregon Coast where you'd use a cross bow and fishing line to pull in a 550'+ span about 300' above the water.
I slid out to fix a J-lasher in heavy weather and had to transfer both safety snaps over the lasher then pull myself back up to the far pole with a 60' sag. The weather was so bad you couldn't see one pole to the other. Stupid but strong that was a bad day.
