Keeping the equipment is not a good way to win the battle. Depending on the value it may be a felony issue IF they kept good records and can show they issued it to you without transferring ownership.
My first question would be if you were a contractor or an employee? My second question should be if YOU kept good records and can show the money being owed (like every installer should). If you were an employee, you can play the Labor Law game since they are required to pay you your last check within 72 hours if THEY terminated your employment and by the next pay date if YOU terminated your employment. If you were a contractor then read the contract you signed and it should state when and how you should be paid in their writing. Again, it mostly depends on who kept the best records. And, I agree, learn from the old dogs and "cover your ass". Hope this helps............
