I've just been looking into that as well.....from what I've found out, the alarm system semds out an analog signal which doesn't always get compressed properly into an IP format, so alarm or test signals don't always get through. The opposite is also true...if the VOIP box is sending out a digital signal, it won't pass through the alarm system properly (if you have an RJ-31X jack hooked up for line seizure). I haven't seen any fixes yet....once IP-based alarm systems come out, that problem should be solved.
If you come across any solutions, please post them....we install alarm systems, and will be doing VOIP installs for the local MSO soon, so we'll soon have the same issues.
Good luck!
