AT&T used to make a tool for entry into central tube and loose tube. I'll see if I can get the part number and post later. It had two razor blades along each side of a double sided, spring loaded cartridge that would score the plastic after squeezing the cartridge together and pulling it down the length of the entry portion. You ring the ends of the entry portion and peel the plastic apart. I personally never had any problem with that tool.
I've never been a fan of the shavers. They do work, but I have seen a lot of broken fiber if they are not used properly. Guess that goes for just about any tool!
