Ring-cutting Fiber for mid-sheath entry

I would like to know what tools other than the "Shavers" that people use and where to get them. I also would like to know what people think of the "Shavers" and if they have had any problems. We have some old fiber plant and we are starting to do a lot of mid-entry splices in this stuff. Any help would great... thanks
