We heard that they would be increasing the price of a standard install. If they haven't then you should consider if the job is worth doing or not. Apparently, wall fishes, pole mounts, crawl spaces, attics, tripods, etc are not payable anymore. As long as techs will do free work, why should they pay for it. You have to decide for yourself if what they are offering is worth doing or not. So many techs get so locked into their job being the only living they can make. It usually is not the case.
If the company has reduced rates below where you can make decent profit (remember you don't want to earn a decent wage, you have expenses no employee ever will have, and liablity including a warrantee of your work and the possiblity that someone else may claim your work was defective, so as to get paid for a service call, and you can wind up with a chargeback) then move on....
Since there isn't or probably ever will be, or even should be, an organized force of subcontractors, each tech needs to decide this for themselves. If a company cannot get techs to work for them at the terms they set, then they will have to adjust the terms. It is simple supply and demand, and right now these companies have no respect for the good work that techs do in cable and satellite. The reason for it: many techs don't realize what their work should be worth and devalue the entire industry.
So, if you think that
Keeping your appt
Installing a Post in the yard
Trenching Underground cable
Crawling through a dirt craw space
Wiring each outlet with a wall fish
installing all the phone jacks
installing and activating the receivers
educating the customer in how to use his system
and giving a warantee on your work, including the possiblity that trees may someday grow into the picture
and pay for all the materials
is worth the money that they are offering you...
then keep doing the work.
If you are afraid others will do it... then fine.... let them... it is each tech's decision.
Don't blame dish network.... it is their point of view that there are qualified techs out there who think that this is what their work is worth. They are not to blame. But the only way for ANY (cable or satellite) work to maintain decent prices is for the demand to outweigh the supply. So we have to wait for more work or less techs.
