Once you have established that the hum is coming from the customer premise, remove the ground, if hum is still present do a voltage check with your VOM to see if you have a hot chasis on customer premise equipment, if no voltage is feeding back to ground, check for a hot ground, (establish a new ground, check for voltage between the new ground and powers ground) If voltage is present it is just amatter of isolating it down to the circut, customer premise hum can be cause by a variety of things, a fish tank, track lighting, reverse palarity on anything, a hot ground, or stray voltage, the key is isolating it using basic troubleshooting techniques
