Satellite for GPS

Let me start with, "I don't know a thing about satellite".

I have a few general questions for those of you who do. I got a GPS unit (Delorme) that connects to my laptop computer. It seems to work great so far. What I am trying to figure out is, Will bad (overcast) weather affect its' performance? Will being in a building do the same? Will I find "dead spots" in some areas like those found with cellular phones?

I'm not looking for big technical answers here. I've tried to get that information answered from the company that sells it but as with any other product, the world is sunshine and lollipops.

Thanks,
