Most SAIII products place the return injection point at the input of the return amp. The return combiner and signal director are not an issue unless you are injecting or testing at one of the outboard test points.
As for 29 taps, don't be surprised to find 29 and 32 taps being used again. We have been using them with no problem for a while now. There are 32 and 29, taps on the market that have the forward attenuation levels of 32 and 29 dB just as before. However, they are designed with 26 dB loss at the return path frequencies. I'm using them for a customer that specifies a N+1 design. They are a designers dream for this type of architecture.
