Make sure the owners or upper management are committed to running a good company. If not, don't think you can change it. Like the others say, ride with a few techs, ask around.....
Installers need respect from their bosses. There is so much b.s. to deal with...you have to be professional, smart, knowledgeable, and still get freakin' dirty! Lead from the front....let the guys know you know what they go through (ie get your hands dirty once in a while). That way you can praise them or give them heck, and they know you know what you'er talking about.
The best sign of respect for installers is the almighty dollar. Sales contests, good piecework rates (don't f*** around with hourly) and cash prizes at Christmas for the hardest-working guys keep them happy and motivate them. A guy will only go the extra mile so many times just for respect.....if he gets paid for it every time, no problem.
