Re: bad cable?

Generally speaking, on an unbalanced 3 way splitter you'll have one leg at 3.5 while the other two have a loss of 7 or 7.5 dB.
A balanced 3 way split will have 5.5 to 6 dB loss on each leg.
Just about any 4 way splitter you use will have the 7 to 7.5 loss on every leg, about the only other factor would be cable length. You say you are using Rg-6? Are the lengths from the two sets to the others dramatically different? We'd be talking a hundred feet or more if there is a decidedly huge difference in reception.
Hate to really get into a big discussion but if there's not that much difference in cable footage, then there has to be some damage or bad connectors somewhere. Are you seeing co-channel ingress on local channels? This would indicate an open in the sheilding or a poorly prepped or crimped connector.
There seems to me to be a fairly simple solution to your problem and I would not rule out bad cable as the problem. If you did the prewiring yourself, are you entirely sure that no other work performed by someone else may not have caused some damage?
Hell, someone crawling through the attic may have stomped on a line you ran,.. you just never know.
One last thing, do all of your cables meet at one splitter or are there other splitters in the chain?
