Work Comp. question

Recently the Prime I work for made an announcement that we subs will have to have business licenses (city/county) and provide a work comp. waiver which of course means no coverage. The alternative to that is the Prime will start deducting 10% of our earnings weekly and will provide comp. coverage.
I actually prefer the 10% option as I am single and have no other health insurance should I get injured and it's tax deductable to boot. What I am wondering is, is 10% enough? It's my understanding that W.C. rates are higher than that and if so, at the end of the year will there be an audit by the insurer requiring me to pay in additional money if the 10% isn't enough?
Should I just seek out my own insurance, comp or otherwise?
Just a dumbass country boy needing help...
