If you're an employee you must sign a release to have anything deducted from your check. Watch what you sign when you first go to work for anyone. Some asshole contractors like the one you are working for like to slip that one in on people.
I'd find another job before they bend you over.
To answer your question, yes if you signed a release or a company policy form stating under what circumstances they will deduct money.
