Well stated Mr. Big Duck! Your statement about hooks brings me to remember the time when splice crews showed up in town without bucket trucks. You could drive by the motel where the splicers were staying and were virtually guaranteed to see at least two guys sharpening their hooks in the parking lot over a cooler of cold beer! Others were busy building their equipment for the next day. In todays' environment, you are hard pressed to do that because you get out to the site, and there is no telling what configuration, cable size ( the prints we work off of are notorious for being wrong ) or additional cables that are there that arent even shown on the print!
Tell a newbie today that the only method of completing a retro is off hooks, and 90% will run for the unemployment line.
