This is natures way of thinning the herd. I've been in since the '70s and seen this happen a few times. In the early '80s the industry bottomed out after all the big metro areas were built. The big contractors went tits-up and the then everybody started subbing for themselves. Work stayed kind of steady for the rest of the decade. In 1990 the industry slowed way down for a year or so until the big fiber boom. With the end of that era we're seeing the same thing. All these big players are collapsing because they're to big compete with all that overhead and the little guy is once again filling the void.
Bottom line--If you're a hard worker, show some pride and integrity; work will find you. On the other hand, if you spent the last five years being a hack or f@#king people; you're done.
