Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required; Utility, telecommunications, forestry, construction, or infrastructure inspection experience preferred; Utility pole inspection experience preferred; Experience with GIS/GPS or mobile data collection platforms preferred; Strong attention to detail and documentation skills; Ability to work independently in outdoor environments. Structural Fumigation License preferred.
Other Requirements
Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record; OSHA 10/30 certification preferred; First Aid/CPR certification preferred. Required Equipment & Tools: Hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, and work boots; GPS-enabled tablet or mobile device; Pole sounding hammer; Hand digging tools; Cordless drill with boring bit; Measuring devices and shell thickness indicator; Pole tagging materials; GIS/data collection software.
Job Description
The Pole Inspector is responsible for inspecting utility distribution poles to identify decay, damage, and safety concerns. This position performs visual inspections, sounding, boring, data collection, GIS updates, pole tagging, and reporting to support the reliability and
safety of utility infrastructure.
Essential Duties & Physical Requirements: Perform above-ground and groundline inspections of utility poles; Identify and document decay, structural defects, and safety hazards; Conduct sounding, excavation, and bore testing to assess pole integrity; Classify and report reject and priority poles; Collect and maintain inspection data using GIS/GPS systems; Install pole inspection tags and maintain accurate records; Follow all OSHA, utility, and company safety requirements; Walk long distances over uneven terrain and work outdoors in varying weather conditions; Lift up to 50 lbs. and perform bending, kneeling, digging, and other physical field activities.
