Job Description
Professional Engineer | OSP Fiber Infrastructure
Lightworx is looking for a licensed Professional Engineer to join our growing telecommunications infrastructure team and provide engineering oversight, technical review, and sign and seal capabilities for OSP fiber and utility infrastructure projects.
This role is ideal for an experienced PE who understands OSP telecommunications, utility infrastructure, roadway and developer projects, and wants the opportunity to help build and shape a growing engineering operation.
~About Lightworx~
Lightworx is an infrastructure engineering and deployment firm supporting telecommunications operators, infrastructure owners, developers, EPC firms, and construction partners across the United States.
We support the complete fiber infrastructure lifecycle, including field data collection, route development, OSP design and engineering, permitting, utility coordination, engineering validation, construction governance, and project closeout.
As our engineering workload and geographic footprint continue to grow, we are expanding our internal engineering capabilities to support increasingly complex telecommunications and utility infrastructure programs.
~What You’ll Do~
As a Professional Engineer with Lightworx, you will provide technical oversight and engineering review for OSP fiber and utility infrastructure projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Review OSP telecommunications engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and permit packages for technical accuracy and compliance
• Sign and seal engineering drawings and supporting documents when appropriate and legally permissible within your licensed jurisdiction
• Provide responsible engineering oversight for work performed under your supervision and responsible charge
• Review underground and aerial fiber designs, roadway crossings, directional bore profiles, conduit systems, handholes, utility relocations, pole attachments, and related infrastructure
• Review proposed designs for constructability, utility conflicts, right of way requirements, and applicable engineering standards
• Review engineering packages for compliance with state DOT, county, municipal, utility owner, and other governing authority requirements
• Support engineering for utility relocations, roadway improvement projects, developer projects, and existing network conflicts
• Coordinate with Lightworx designers, project managers, field technicians, construction partners, clients, and permitting authorities
• Identify engineering risks and required corrections before drawings are submitted for permitting or released for construction
• Assist in developing and maintaining Lightworx engineering standards, QA/QC procedures, calculation packages, drawing standards, and internal review processes
• Support Lightworx as we expand our engineering capabilities into additional states and jurisdictions
~What We’re Looking For~
We are not looking for someone to simply stamp drawings.
We are looking for a Professional Engineer who takes ownership of the engineering being performed under their responsible charge and is comfortable reviewing, questioning, correcting, and ultimately approving engineering work.
The right person should be able to operate independently, communicate clearly with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders, and represent Lightworx professionally with clients, contractors, utilities, municipalities, and permitting authorities.
We are especially interested in someone who wants to help build the engineering side of a growing infrastructure company rather than simply process individual projects.
~Required Qualifications~
• Active Professional Engineer license in at least one U.S. state
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another engineering discipline applicable to the work being performed
• Experience reviewing engineering drawings and technical documentation
• Understanding of professional engineering ethics, responsible charge requirements, and sign and seal obligations
• Ability to independently evaluate engineering work and determine whether deliverables are suitable for professional approval
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently while coordinating with a distributed project team
• Willingness to obtain additional state PE licenses through comity as Lightworx expands
~Preferred Qualifications~
• Experience with OSP fiber optic infrastructure
• Telecommunications engineering experience
• Utility relocation engineering
• Underground conduit and duct bank design
• Directional bore profiles and roadway crossings
• Aerial telecommunications and pole attachment engineering
• Joint use and make ready engineering
• State DOT and municipal right of way projects
• Utility conflict analysis
• Permitting and jurisdictional coordination
• Construction engineering and constructability review
• Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, Bluebeam, or similar engineering platforms
• Active PE licenses in multiple states
Experience and licensure throughout the Southeast and Midwest are strongly preferred as Lightworx continues expanding its project footprint.
~Schedule~
This is a remote position with project workload varying based on active engineering programs.
The PE will coordinate directly with Lightworx project management and design personnel and must be responsive when engineering reviews, revisions, client coordination, or permitting deadlines require attention.
~Compensation~
Compensation is based on experience, licensing footprint, telecommunications and utility engineering background, technical capabilities, and level of responsibility.
Final compensation and employment structure will be discussed directly with qualified candidates.
~Growth Opportunity~
This position has the opportunity to become much more than a project review role.
Lightworx is actively building its engineering capabilities as part of our larger infrastructure deployment and asset protection platform.
The right Professional Engineer will have the opportunity to help establish engineering standards, develop internal processes, expand our state licensing footprint, mentor future engineering personnel, and potentially grow into a broader engineering leadership role as the company scales.
We are looking for someone who wants to build with us.
~To Apply~
Please send your resume to and include:
• States where you currently hold an active PE license
• Engineering discipline and primary areas of expertise
• Relevant telecommunications, OSP, utility, roadway, or infrastructure experience
• Experience signing and sealing engineering documents
• Additional states where you are currently eligible or willing to pursue PE licensure through comity
• Current availability

About Us
Lightworx is a telecommunications infrastructure company built to make fiber deployment more predictable from beginning to end. We support telecom operators, infrastructure owners, developers, hyperscalers and construction partners across the full project lifecycle, including field data collection, design, engineering, permitting, utility coordination, infrastructure validation, construction governance, and closeout.
Our approach is simple: reduce the handoffs and disconnects that create delays, rework, conflicts, and surprises in the field. By connecting engineering decisions with real world field conditions and construction execution, Lightworx helps ensure infrastructure is designed correctly, built correctly, and protected throughout its operating life.
We are building a team of problem solvers who take ownership, communicate well, pay attention to the details, and want to grow alongside a company operating in one of the country's most important infrastructure industries.
