Job Type: Full-Time, Travel/Per Diem
Travel Requirements: 100% travel (company-provided lodging and per diem provided)

Star Construction is a premier telecommunications construction contractor currently deploying critical, long-haul fiber infrastructure for AT&T across Mississippi. We are hiring dedicated, hard-working Backhoe Operators and Construction Laborers to join our traveling utility crew. If you are dependable and ready to travel, we offer competitive pay, per diem, and steady work. Must pass background screening and drug test.
Role Overview Operator: Safely and efficiently operate a backhoe to dig trenches, bore pits, and perform grading for long-haul fiber placement. You will work closely with the crew to ensure conduit and fiber are installed to AT&T specifications. Clean driving record; CDL is a plus
Key Duties:
Safely operate a backhoe to excavate and backfill trenches for underground telecommunications.
Strictly adhere to utility safety procedures and perform daily inspections of equipment.
Ensure proper depth and grade of trenches according to construction blueprints and AT&T standards.
Perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment, including greasing, cleaning, and minor servicing
Answer callouts for AT&T outages.
Role Overview Laborer: Perform essential physical labor to support the heavy equipment operators and crew. You will assist in preparing job sites, guiding machinery, laying conduit, and restoring worksites. Clean driving record; CDL is a plus
Key Duties:
Assist Backhoe Operators by spotting, cleaning up around trench excavations, and using hand tools (shovels, tampers).
Lay, pull, and secure fiber optic cables and innerduct in open trenches.
Load/unload materials, tools, and equipment from company trucks.
Set up safety perimeters, cones, and warning signs following OSHA Guidelines.
Perform site restoration, including backfilling, grading, and raking work areas to original conditions.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in construction, utility work, or general manual labor.
Ability to lift/carry up to 75 lbs and perform heavy manual labor in various conditions.
Valid Driver's License.
Strong team player with a willingness to learn and follow Foreman directions.
