Job Description
GridSource is seeking a Licensed Construction Supervisor – Qualifying Party NC NCLBGC
Location: Charlotte, NC
Our project mix includes micro trenching, horizontal directional drilling (HDD), underground conduit installation, and aerial construction. We are building the North Carolina team from the ground up and are seeking a credentialed construction professional to anchor our NC licensing compliance and provide operational oversight for the region.
The Opportunity
This is a leadership and compliance role. You will serve as the NC NCLBGC Qualifying Party for GridSource's Public Utilities contractor license, providing the licensing authority in North Carolina. In that capacity, you will provide construction oversight, ensure work is being performed in accordance with applicable standards and permit conditions, and serve as GridSource's responsible party with the NCLBGC. This is a ground-floor opportunity with a well-capitalized, PE-backed platform company actively growing its Southeast footprint.
What You'll Do
Serve as the designated qualifying party on GridSource's NC Licensing Board for General Contractors (NCLBGC) Public Utilities contractor license
Provide construction oversight sufficient to fulfill the responsibilities of the qualifying party role under NC law and NCLBGC standards
Review project scopes, methods, and site conditions to ensure work is being executed in compliance with applicable regulations, permit conditions, and industry standards
Serve as GridSource's point of contact for NCLBGC matters, license renewals, and any regulatory inquiries
Ensure GridSource's NC operations comply with NCDOT encroachment agreement requirements, city/county ROW permit conditions, and NC 811 / One Call obligations
Collaborate with GridSource's operations, safety, and project management teams on construction standards and compliance
Provide guidance on construction methods, sequencing, and quality for underground telecom work (microtrenching, HDD, conduit, aerial)
What We're Looking For
Our priority is candidates who are already licensed or credentialed and ready to fulfill this role immediately. We will also consider highly experienced candidates who do not yet hold the NC credential but can demonstrate the qualifications to obtain it.
Ideal — Active Credential (Highest Priority):
Active NC NCLBGC Public Utilities qualifier credential, OR
Active contractor license in a reciprocal state (Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, or Florida) that qualifies for NC exam waiver
Also Considered — Qualifiable Candidates:
7+ years of progressive experience in underground telecom or utility construction with demonstrated supervisory or management responsibility
Verifiable experience in the classifications covered by the NC Public Utilities exam: underground conduit, fiber optic, communications systems, boring and tunneling, excavation, and/or utility construction
Strong candidates in this category must be prepared to sit for and pass the NC NCLBGC Public Utilities exam as a condition and timeline of employment
All Candidates:
Solid working knowledge of underground telecom construction methods including microtrenching, HDD, conduit installation, and aerial work
Familiarity with NCDOT encroachment and ROW permit processes
Understanding of NC 811 / One Call compliance requirements
Professional maturity to serve as a named responsible party on a state contractor license
OSHA 30 Construction preferred
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive base salary commensurate with experience and credential status
Important Note on the Qualifying Party Role
The selected candidate will be formally designated as the qualifying party on GridSource's NCLBGC Public Utilities license. This designation carries professional and legal responsibility under NC law, and GridSource takes that obligation seriously. This is not a nominal or passive arrangement — the qualifying party will have genuine oversight responsibilities and will be supported by GridSource's operations team to fulfill them. Candidates who already hold an active NC PU qualifier credential or a qualifying reciprocal state license will be prioritized, as credential status directly affects our project launch timeline.
