Job Description
We are launching a major underground fiber project in Albuquerque, NM and we need experienced drill crews.
This is a rare chance to join a high-volume, high-priority project with long-term stability and nonstop production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate directional drill rigs for underground utility installation
- Follow bore plans, profiles, and depth requirements
- Maintain proper bore path, depth, and alignment using locator guidance
- Communicate continuously with the locator during all drilling operations
- Identify and respond to changing ground conditions (rock, sand, utilities, etc.)
- Ensure safe entry and exit pits are set up properly
- Monitor drilling fluid (mud) usage and returns
- Avoid existing utilities and follow all 811 locate requirements
- Complete daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance
- Track bore footage, rod count, and production data
- Lead safe work practices during drilling operations
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience operating HDD drill rigs (Vermeer, Ditch Witch, etc.)
- Strong understanding of underground utility installation
- Ability to read bore plans and follow utility alignments
- Knowledge of soil conditions and drilling techniques
- Ability to work in tight spaces, trenches, and active job sites
- Strong communication with locator and crew
- Mechanically inclined and able to troubleshoot equipment
