Job Title: Coax Field Engineer – Existing Plant Data Audit
Job Summary
The Coax Field Engineer - Existing Plant Data Audit is responsible for performing detailed field verification of the existing coaxial outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) network. This role involves walking the existing network routes, collecting accurate as-built information, capture pictures, validating plant conditions, identifying discrepancies between field and design records, and documenting all infrastructure elements using standardized tools and forms.

Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct physical field audits of existing coaxial OSP/ISP infrastructure including trunk, feeder, active/passive devices, amplifiers, taps, splitters, pedestals, power supplies, grounding/bonding, and customer drops. Capture pictures for all these infrastructures.
• Verify equipment manufacturer, device configuration, signal path, and equipment identifiers (EQ IDs, serial numbers, model types).
• Capture condition of plant elements and note required corrections (e.g., damaged pedestals, improper grounding).
• Update all collected field data in designated Mergin & QGIS, or company specific platforms as recommended during the work.
• Validate existing design maps against field conditions and document mismatches clearly.
• Prepare field audit reports summarizing findings, discrepancies, and report all issues.
• Capture high-quality photos, sketches, and notes for every audited asset as per audit standards.
• Work closely with back-office design team and project manager to clarify field issues.
• Communicate access challenges, missing data, and plant integrity concerns promptly.
• Coordinate with property owners, building managers, and field supervisors when accessing gated or indoor locations.
• Experience with field data collection tools and mobile apps.
• Basic understanding of HFC architecture including coax, fiber nodes, amplifiers, power supplies, taps, and RF principles.
• Ability to read and interpret coax system design prints, strand maps, and as-builts.
• Ability to work independently and drive.
• Use Mobile devices and can wrench.
• Use Mergin Maps and PDF maps.

Preferred Qualifications:
• 6 months - 2 years of experience in coax/HFC field engineering, plant audit, or telecom field work
• Knowledge of MSO systems (Comcast, Charter, Cox, Mediacom, etc.).
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision.
