Job Description
Job Title: Fiber OSP & ISP Field Technician
Job Summary
The Fiber OSP & ISP Field Technician is responsible for conducting detailed field surveys, documentation, and site assessments for both greenfield (new construction) and brownfield (existing network upgrade/overbuild) fiber deployment projects. The technician captures accurate field data, validates constructability, identifies installation routes, and supports engineering and construction teams with dependable OSP and ISP information. The role requires strong knowledge of aerial, underground, and inside-building fiber infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
1. Field Surveys & Data Collection
• Perform comprehensive fielding for new construction areas (greenfield) and existing network areas (brownfield).
• Capture Span measurements, existing utilities (Gas, electrical, water, sewer etc.,), road widths, GPS coordinates, field photos including existing and proposed Manholes, HH, bore pits, conduits, Poles etc., and field notes.
• Identify aerial and underground fiber paths, building entry points, utilities, and obstacles.
• Verify and document MDUs, residential lots, commercial sites, poles, pedestals, handholes, cabinets, and equipment rooms.

2. OSP Responsibilities (Outside Plant)
Greenfield OSP
• Identify conduit paths, Handhole/Manhole placements, fiber distribution points, and lateral routes to lots/MDUs.
• Validate roadway crossings, ROW boundaries, trenching feasibility, and construction limitations.
• Coordinate with developers and builders for site access.
Brownfield OSP
• Perform make-ready assessments for aerial and underground paths.
• Evaluate existing poles, attachments, clearances, and pole loading feasibility.
• Identify conflicts such as tree overgrowth, encroachments, damaged infrastructure, and congested duct banks.
• Locate existing fiber, copper, coax, and utility plant to verify upgrade paths.
• Document splicing points, slack loops, existing terminals, NAPs, and cabinet placements.

3. ISP Responsibilities (Inside Plant)
• Conduct Inside plant surveys for MDUs, MTUs, commercial buildings, and utility rooms.
• Identify entry points, riser pathways, telecom rooms, conduits, and grounding locations.
• Measure cable routes, risers, and horizontal runs.
• Document equipment rack space, power availability, and fire-stop requirements.
• Provide detailed notes, sketches, and photos of all ISP elements.

4. Technical Documentation
• Prepare and upload complete field packages to recommended project management platform, including:
o Field sketches
o Photos
o KMZ files
o Address validation
o Structure details
• Ensure alignment with customer engineering standards for both greenfield and brownfield projects.
• Assist design teams with redlines, clarifications, and constructability feedback.

5. Communication & Coordination
• Coordinate with project managers, Schedulers, and permitting teams.
• Report access issues, discrepancies, missing data, or conflicts.
• Work with utility owners, property managers, or developers to resolve field issues.
• Provide daily updates on progress and job completion.

6. Tools & Technology
• Operate measuring wheel, mobile devices, and height stick.
• Use Fielding software tool, Mergin Maps and KMZ.

Required Skills & Qualifications
• Knowledge of OSP and ISP fiber construction methods.
• Experience with both greenfield and brownfield fielding environments.
• Understanding of aerial/underground routing, utilities, and telecom infrastructure.
• Ability to read engineering prints and maps.
• Effective communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently, drive, and meet project deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications
• 6 months - 2 years of experience in telecom fielding (OSP/ISP).
• Experience with Fielding software tool or similar fiber fielding tools.
• Familiarity with permitting requirements and utility coordination.
