Attention to detail, technical aptitude, and physical endurance are essential, as this role requires accuracy, outdoor work in various weather conditions, and physically demanding tasks such as walking and digging for extended periods.
Job Description
Key Qualifications:
-Utility Locating Expertise – Proficiency in using locating equipment and understanding of underground utilities, including telecom, electrical, water, and gas lines.
-Technical Skills – Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot electronic locators and other specialized equipment.
-Attention to Detail – Strong focus on accuracy and precision when marking utility locations to prevent damage and ensure project success.
-Physical Endurance – Capable of working outdoors in various weather conditions and performing physically demanding tasks, including extended periods of walking and digging.
Key Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
-Receive daily work assignments from the dispatcher.
-Review the work plan and locate tickets with the PC (if needed) to ensure proper bore path, unusual ground conditions, and correct materials.
-Complete necessary documentation, including JSA, dig forms, and other required paperwork.
-Inspect and prepare crew truck daily, ensuring proper construction and restoration materials are available.
-Identify utilities that require potholing for a safe bore path and perform potholing.
-Mix drilling fluid (mud) based on observed ground conditions.
-Plan and guide the bore from the entry pit to the receiving pit, ensuring safety and accuracy.
-Set up the correct package (e.g., pulling eye in pipe, hooking up swivel, shackle, etc.) and monitor pipe stress and tailing.
-Assist in sweeping product into place and setting pedestals.
-Perform site cleanup and restoration after job completion.
-Fill out the JHA, identifying hazards such as nearby traffic (within 15 feet), trip/fall risks, and other safety concerns.
-Maintain locator equipment and other electronic tools.
-Determine appropriate passive traffic controls needed (e.g., cones).
