Job Description

The HDD Drill Locator plays a critical role in guiding and supporting directional drilling operations. This position involves accurately navigating drill heads through existing utilities, ensuring safe and efficient project execution. Collaboration, self-management, and adherence to safety protocols are key components of this role.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the drill operator to accurately locate and follow the drill head, ensuring safe navigation through existing utilities.
• Work closely with the project team, including the drilling crew and project managers, to understand project requirements, plans, and specifications.
• Participate in pre-drilling meetings to review project plans, identify potential challenges, and develop risk mitigation strategies.
• Exercise a high degree of self-management alongside the drill operator to meet project goals efficiently.
• Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines, maintaining a safe environment for yourself, the team, and other personnel on-site.
• Continuously update knowledge and skills related to locating techniques, equipment use, and industry best practices.
• Operate outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme cold, heat, rain, snow, and high winds.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in HDD operations or locating preferred.
• Previous experience as an HDD Drill Locator or similar role in the telecommunications or construction industry.
• Strong understanding of utility locating techniques and equipment operation.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to effectively coordinate with the drilling crew and project managers.
• Proven ability to self-manage tasks and responsibilities within a team setting.
• Commitment to safety and ability to enforce safety guidelines on-site.
• Physical ability to work in various outdoor conditions and perform manual labor as needed.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL is a plus.
• Willingness to travel for extended periods as required by project assignments. Per diem will be paid out at $140.00 per day, or $40.00 per day if accommodations are provided by the company. Candidates located more than 50 miles from project and located in the mid-west/west coast are encouraged to apply.

Work Environment
