Job Description

Technical Skills
Fiber Optic Splicing and Termination
Proficiency in both fusion splicing and mechanical splicing.
Ability to install and terminate various types of connectors (SC, LC, ST, etc.).
Testing and Troubleshooting
Expertise in using testing equipment like OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer), power meters, and light sources.
Ability to identify, diagnose, and fix fiber optic cable issues such as breaks, attenuation, or signal loss.
Understanding Fiber Optic Standards and Protocols including Optical splice loss, understanding reflective and non-reflective events, ORL, CD, PMD testing
Familiarity with industry standards such as ANSI/TIA/EIA-568, IEEE, and ITU standards.
Knowledge of different types of fiber (single-mode, multi-mode) and their applications.
Cable Management
Proficiency in managing fiber distribution systems, organizing cables, and avoiding issues like fiber bend radius violations.
Reading and Interpreting Blueprints
Ability to read network diagrams, blueprints, and construction drawings to install and maintain fiber systems according to design specifications.
Familiarity with Network Infrastructure
Understanding of network architecture, including GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network), FTTH (Fiber to the Home), and data center cabling.
Equipment Operation and Safety Skills
Use of Tools and Equipment
Proficient with fiber optic toolkits, crimping tools, and fiber cleavers.
Ability to use ladders, aerial lifts, and other equipment for installations.
Safety Protocols
Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices, including how to work safely around electrical lines, heights, and confined spaces.
Understanding and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.

Ongoing Learning: Keeping up with advancements in fiber optic technology, such as new installation techniques, testing methods, and equipment.
