Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Horizontal Directional Driller (HDD) to join our telecommunications construction team. The HDD operator will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating horizontal directional drilling equipment to install underground conduits, cables, and fiber optics for broadband and telecommunications infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of HDD operations, possess strong troubleshooting skills, and be committed to safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
• Operate HDD equipment: Safely and efficiently operate horizontal directional drilling machinery to install conduits, cables, and fiber for broadband networks.
• Site setup and preparation: Prepare job sites for drilling operations by identifying utility locations, setting up equipment, and reviewing project plans and blueprints.
• Drilling operations: Perform HDD operations including pilot bores, reaming, and pullback of conduits, cables, and pipes as per project specifications.
• Operate mini excavators and related heavy equipment for underground fiber optic installation.
• Utility coordination: Identify and avoid underground utilities during the drilling process, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
• Locate existing underground utilities using electronic locating equipment.
Perform trenching and excavation to install telecommunications broadband infrastructure.
•Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and maps to ensure accurate work.
•Assist with site setup, traffic control, and maintenance of a clean and safe job site.
• Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on HDD equipment, ensuring that all machinery is in optimal working condition.
• Documentation: Complete and maintain daily logs, as-built records, and other documentation required by project management.
• Safety compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of PPE, proper equipment handling, and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
