Qualifications

Experience with aerial fiber optic cable design and installation. Knowledge of fiber optic network components and architectures. Proficiency in using industry-standard design software (e.g., AutoCAD, GIS). Strong understanding of relevant codes and standards (e.g., NESC, NEC). Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Other Requirements

Professional Engineer (PE) license (or ability to obtain one). Experience with project management and/or construction oversight. Knowledge of permitting processes for fiber optic projects. Familiarity with underground fiber optic cable installation (e.g., boring). Experience working with utility companies and local authorities

Job Description

The Fiber Engineer will play a critical role in the successful design, bidding, and implementation of an 18-mile aerial fiber project in East Tennessee. This position requires a combination of technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. The Fiber Engineer will be responsible for leading all aspects of the project's engineering phase, from initial design and cost estimation to permitting and construction oversight.

Design and Engineering:
Lead the design and engineering of the aerial fiber optic network, including fiber routing, pole placement, equipment selection, and splicing diagrams.
Utilize industry-standard design software (e.g., AutoCAD, GIS) to create detailed construction plans and specifications.
Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards (e.g., NESC, NEC).
Perform site surveys and field inspections as needed.

Bidding and Cost Estimation:
Develop accurate cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment.
Prepare competitive bid proposals, outlining project scope, timeline, and budget.
Participate in bid presentations and negotiations with clients.
Permitting and Regulatory Compliance:
Oversee the permitting process, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Coordinate with utility companies, local authorities, and other stakeholders to obtain necessary approvals.

Construction Oversight:
Provide technical guidance and support to construction crews.
Monitor construction progress to ensure adherence to design specifications and quality standards.
Address any technical issues or challenges that arise during construction.

Project Management:
Develop and maintain project schedules and budgets.
Track project milestones and deliverables.
Communicate project status and updates to stakeholders.
