This shouldn't take long to say. I know that the vast majority of you have better things to do than sit there reading everybody's gripes. In all of my 17 years in this buisness, I have seen great changes in th industry, but one thing never changes. The green hacks that think that because they can core a piece of cable, that this industry owes them a livng, simply because they can. Bullshit! You hear them moan and groan that somebody didn't pay them, or somebody is paying $2 less for something than they thought, or somebody hasn't gotton their retainer back. My personal experience from all over the country, has led me to believe that the problem usually is with the sub's, NOT the primes! Sure there are bad companies out there, but, the majority of primes are cool. They pay what they owe for the work that has been done. Think about it. If a prime makes a habit out of not paying their contractors, they sure as hell aren't going to be primes very long! The ONLY time I haven't been paid what I was owed, was when I didn't do the work. And I don't go away crying because of it! Personally I won't make my 1st cut untill I have everything in writing! Prices, retainage, the whole nine-yards. Thats experience talking. I wouldn't expect my retainage back if I'm not there to do my clean-up!(theres ALWAYS some kind of cleanup needed, even if its only 1 pole!) It's to be expected. I don't go into a motel room, destroy it, then sneak off in the night! That's another indication of a hack! The moral of the story: If you check the prime out thru current workers, and everybody has been paid, and you do your work with pride, and dont screw anyone over then EVERYBODY is happy. You got good work that pays, the primes are making their money, and the MSO has the work being done by professionals! Win, win, win situation!
