You are now doing it right but...........The biggest problem the 0 pads will cause is an elevated noise floor and hitting the return chip a little harder. It will not affect the modems adversely unless the elevated noise floor pushes the modems into too much noise and then there will be a problem. Most systems I have worked in use 0 pads in the return inputs.
