Re: SPLICING in Knoxville, TN
THERE ARE BETTER JOBS THIN THAT
> This system is a Marconi design that piggy-backs phone pairs with .625 and .840 coax cable. There are phone boxes to splice at splitters and terminators. There are NO actives except for the ONU, and we don't splice that unit. We run a riser at the ONU location (they are mounted in peds next to the pole), and we splice the splitter-tap combo at that location. That pays $30. The phone boxes are ALWAYS where you're splicing coax anyway (splitters and terminators - an occassional through tap if the construction crew had to burn a partial). The least they pay is $10.80 for about 20 minutes of additional time on the pole. The coax is input footage for splicing splitters and taps. An average NODE area is 10 - 12 locations with 1 or 2 splits, 4 - 6 through taps, and 3 or 4 terminators. The average span is better than 150', and so far most of it is bucketable. Coax splicing pays $.06 per foot.
> * Now, with all that said, I need a couple of splicers that can make money here like my core crew of four. Hell, I've got 4 men here that make $750 or more every week, and that's not bad these days. $2,000 + a week is a thing of the past guys, let it go!
> * I just fired two guys, you'll probably see them on the board telling you what a bastard I am. Well, here's the skinny. One guy (I won't post his name because I bear him no malice) spent more than 2 days cutting in 5 through taps and 2 terminators. NO riser, NO climbers, NO reason! Another guy spentt 3 days pissin and moanin about the work, even though I explained the scope of the work to him thoroughly before he started. His production wasn't much better than the other guy. So, if you are a real splicer - not a WHINER, and you have come to terms with the way our industry has changed for the worst, and you want a regular pay check, then call me at (865) 992-5794 and ask for Curtis. If I'm out, leave a message and a number.
