I have been in the cable tv/broadband construction business since 1979.
There are good & bad thangs with school training.
The way I learned to splice coax was finding a company willing to
teach me in return for my being a "tapper". By the time fiber became
popular {1989} I had stopped being a contractor & took a job with
a cable company {of course I took a huge paycut, but got uniforms,
insurance & a fairly stable environment}.
Anyway, if you can find a reputable fiber splicer who can
train you. that would probably be best. However if you are ready to
settle down with a construction company let me know.
I am in the process of getting plant extension & construction
maintenance work. So I will be looking to staff crews capable
of total construction, fiber/coax/retrofit splicing/telephony
drop swapping. Let me know if that sounds like an area of interest.
> I`ve been thinking about going back to school to get my certification for fiber splicing. Can anyone tell me if it`s worth my time and money to get my certification or not. I do CATV construction and it seems like there isn`t gonna be much of that anymore, not like it useto be. thanks and Ì`ll be looking forward from hearing from someone. -PEACE-
