CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS - REDDING, CA

JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, responsible for installing and servicing high speed Internet Service in customer homes. Perform field technical work and servicing customer problems related to the Internet Services high-speed Internet service; trouble shoot, repair and maintain the Cable Television system as it relates to data services over cable and computer configurations and equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
Contribute to the Company vision of being the industry leader in customer service through quality, commitment, courtesy and teamwork

Perform customer installations of Internet Services, including both installing new drops from tap to cable modem, as well as installing and configuring network interface cards and client software on customer computer equipment

Educate customer on proper use of the service, including how to add additional services and access help online

Determine acceptability of service by using diagnostic software and performance testing tools on customer computer

Respond to service calls related to Internet Services high-speed Internet service; Troubleshoot drop line, distribution and return-path problems; splice cable; make other necessary adjustments to improve quality and reliability of the Internet Services service

Troubleshoot and fix problems on customer computer systems; identify problems with customer system configurations and settings that interfere with use of the service; educate customers on usage of the Internet Services software and services to allow customers to gain full use and enjoyment of the service

Monitor and repair signal leakage and restore system service outages as service calls require

Assist with training of technicians as needed

Maintain records for tool, modem and network card inventory

Complete in a timely manner all paperwork associated with each work order

Clean, maintain and stock assigned vehicle and equipment

Perform other duties as requested by supervisor

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
Ability to accurately measure distances, using tapes or other measuring devices
Ability to adhere to Local, Federal regulations and Company policies
Ability to carry, climb and operate extension ladder, (approx. 28 ft high and 75 pounds)
Ability to climb poles using gaffs, hooks and climbing belt as needed
Ability to differentiate between different sizes and colors of wires
Ability to drive Company vehicle in a safe and responsible manner
Ability to make cable connections in tight spaces by bending, reaching, twisting
Ability to operate appropriate computer or test equipment associated with position
Ability to perform job from high places (i.e. poles and roofs)
Ability to install Network Internet Card and resolve associated problems
Ability to read general system layouts from blue prints and system maps
Ability to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional manner
Ability to use the following hand tools: electric drills, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers in the installation of cable to the residence and TV set converters
Ability to walk over all types of terrain in all kinds of weather while carrying tools and equipment,
Ability to work while standing 50 - 70% of the time
Ability to work with small components and wires to make cable connections including gaffs, ladders,
and fully loaded tool belts
Knowledge of basic mathematics and electronics
Knowledge of cable television products and services, the internet and world wide web
Knowledge of computer networking or other common networking protocols
Knowledge of National Electric Code and National Electrical Safety Code
Knowledge of personal computers, including Windows 95 or MacOS systems
Vision ability: close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus
Knowledge and understanding of data and RF theory

B. Education
High School Diploma or equivalent
Some college work in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
NCTI Installer-Technician Course or equivalent
A+ Certification or equivalent recognized training program

C. Related Work Experience
Personal computer or network support experience - 1 year
or Installer II or Service Technician I work experience
Data or cable work experience equivalent to a Service Technician I - 6 months

D. Certifications and/or Licenses
Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record within Company required standards

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to dust, dirt, noise, insects, cleaning solutions
Work outdoors in all kinds of weather and at all times of the day or night
Work performed near power lines and electricity
Work and travel in inclement weather
