Re: Getting Old---Do You Remember-----

Jorge, was the old man's name--Pronounced, Hor-Hey. Yep I knew him. White cowboy hat and a good Cuban cigar in his teeth. Worked for him in '71, runnin' a "Pit Crew", diggin' splice pits for Southern Bell. I think it was Jorge Jr. that took an old Cleveland J-23, and starting a job, cut a 900 pair pulp telephone cable, realized what he'd done, called Bell, went around the corner and cut the same cable again. I THINK it was Jr. but that was a long time ago. Hey, Paul Banks is still working for them. Did you know Paul? No, '71 was the 1st year Church and tower worked in the United States. I left, and moved to Misssouri in '72.

> Lash, Were you involved with Mastec when Mr. Maas and Bob Gruno (Burnup & Simms) got together? Had a lot of respect for the old man, (don't know how to spell his first name)was real sorry to hear he died. I started diggin' holes for Cal Tel in Foster City, Calif. until they started doing aerial in San Jose. Being a grunt was better than being a gopher. Can and do still climb in my old Brookes hooks...when the body allows me to! Have a good one.

Went to work later for Harrison-Wright outta N.C. Stayed 'till they lost the Master contract for So. Fla. Went to work for Church & Tower Corp. (now known as Mastec) in '71. Damn, if I don't end up workin' for the same out fit in Missouri some 30 years later!! I knew the CEO's (Mastec) Father! Found out while sittin' in on one of those pep talks about E-Business that Mastec was promoting at the time. Kicked my butt. Still hate diggin', but I can climb, and do on occasion now. Hang in there!!

You feel old-- I was borne before the Korean War, Guess by your standards I should be a fossil by now. Well this old fossil can get up and down his share of poles in a day, and pull the lasher every other span. I do however end up a little grumpy by the end of the day!!
