Wamerrell answered your question well about the stinger lengths, another thing to consider when using PPC connectors is that when the backup nut is torqued the pin drives forward, you can't tighten the seizure screws until after the cables are installed in the device. The pins don't make a big differance in most equipment but if you are using is C-COR FLEXNET there is very little clearance for the pin where it goes through the housing, if the seizure screws are tightened before the cable is placed (as is a common practice by most splicers) the pins bow and short against the housing.
