Re:Sweeping at 860 and QR cable



No slam here, just an observation. Doing the torch thing is one thing, but promoting it probably isn't a great idea. I have regularly used the torch to remove the dielectric, having been taught that way by an old hand. I agree that if you can do it cleanly, you do no damage to the center conductor. I've swept to 860 behind my own splicing and his with not one problem from a torch-burned conductor. However, we learned - and burned our share of conductors - when the specs weren't so tight. When you find a newbie trying that method today, he's undoubtedly causing problems as he learns.
I know the Y-190s slow you down a little, and are a pain to use, but it's probably best if the torch method becomes a dying art.
