Reports To: Technical Operations Manager

Position Summary: Supports and facilitates the customer focused activities of all customer contact personnel by performing various field technical work involving routine maintenance and repair of CATV trunk and distribution systems, including activation and proof of new-build areas. Is involved with system troubleshooting due to equipment or power failure; assist with training and guidance of Installers, Installer Technicians and Service Technicians.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs any and all duties of personnel in Service Technician and Installer descriptions.

Sets forward and return trunk levels, sets-up and changes out trunk amplifiers, calculates signal level losses in cable and equipment for trunk and distribution lines.

Assumes full responsibility for troubleshooting and maintenance of the entire trunk and distribution system, including Fiber Optic Cable, Fiber Nodes, forward and return amplifiers, coax cable, couplers, splitters, and taps.

Uses OTDR, TDR, Spectrum Analyzer, FSM, Stealth Sweep Receiver and Cable Fault Locator throughout the scope of duties. Occasionally uses waveform monitor and frequency counter when testing / proofing Headend performance.

Conducts system tests such as: carrier/noise, hum modulation, 24 hour tests, forward and return sweep, return ingress levels, and fiber transmitter and receiver operation. Performs all FCC mandated Proof of Performance tests.

Reads and understands system design maps. Assists and effects interface for required revisions to strand and design maps.

Prepares estimates for projects, providing designs and bill of materials.

Is responsible for project through completion, including monitoring contractor progress up to and including processing of invoices from contractors to assure Company specifications are met.

Performs customary CATV aerial and underground construction, including installation of U.G. cable, vaults, pedestals or equipment used to house CATV equipment. Locates existing U.G. cable, identifies bad cable with use of a TDR or fault locator. Performs aerial construction including make-ready, pulling and lashing cables, placing all passive and active devices found in trunk and distribution. Sets up GNA and Line Extenders, including calculating pads and equalizers as required, using a field strength meter. Assists with fiber construction and initial forward fiber optic receiver and return fiber optic transmitter splicing and setup.

Participates in emergency fiber restorations, including fiber preparation, fusion splicing and planning permanent repairs.

Climbs poles with proper equipment (safety belt, safety strap, and climbers), ladders or other structures as needed. Lifts and carries load up to 70lbs; uses bucket truck when required. Works within limited confines, such as crawl spaces and attics.

Keeps records and renders reports relative to system operations as required.

Prerequisites:
Serve as a Service Technician for at least six months, or equivalent previous experience.

Satisfactory completion of SCTE BCT Categories I, III and V.

Satisfactory passing of practical knowledge exam administered by the employer demonstrating practical ability to perform the required skills of the classification.

Understanding of computers preferred (PC and/or MacIntosh), including DOS, Internet, IE4.0

Ability to interpret and correctly fill-out various work order forms provided by the company.

Ability to professionally interact with customers and co-workers; strong verbal communication skills.

Intrinsic motivation desired; understands and supports company goals, including working overtime as needed.

Strong work ethic with an emphasis in team commitment desired.

Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record (supplied by applicant).

Successful criminal background check is required
