I have a little bit of experience in the industry, but right now I possess very limited knowledge when it comes to 1099 scope of work.
Recently I connected with an individual (or individuals) who claimed they have drop-bury work available for me - exactly the type of work I’m actively looking for. The only part that started to raise questions is when they chose to use Telegram as the messenger for communication and asked me to provide sensitive information through the “AppXpanse – powered by Fiber Speed Solutions” form, including my SSN, driver’s license, proof of residency, and so on.
Providing that kind of information would look normal to me in a W-2 employment in-person context. My question is whether it is also considered normal in this 1099 situation.
I apologize for my ignorance, but based on my personal experience there are far too many fraudulent activities taking place on messengers like Telegram, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to verify with others who actually do this work for a living.
