Re: Fujikura Vs. Sumitomo Which is better?

By: Larry Holtermann ( (-REDACTED-) )

i wasnt aware that the sumitomo was faster......i used an older model for over a year and wasnt very pleased with its performance......i have been using a fujikura for the past two years and i would recommend it to anyone .....i tried the new model sumitomo at an SCTE meeting....it was pretty fast, but i still didnt like the ease of use (particularly, the need to cleave at a precise setting, whereas with the fujikura, you can cleave indiscriminately)....As far as i know, you can purchase the same type of diagnostic set-up (via phone line) with the Fujikura, although there is some cost difference to purchase the software on the front end.......my only complaint with the Fuji is the slowness of the heater....even with two splices cooking in it !! original message: ---------------------------------------- Im looking for some input from fiber splicers whom have used both the Fujikura 30 and the Sumitomo 36. I know the Sumitomo is faster but is the splicing as reliable? I have been running Fuji's for years, and have had great experiences with them. Maybe im crazy to go with somthing new, but the speed of the Sumitomo is making me consider it. I also like the fact that the Sumitomo can be diagnosed by the factory over the phone. I would appreciate anyones input. Thanks Mark Pressey (Fiber Fixers) ----------------------------------------
