Gentlemen, the BEAD funding was to be the final big push for federally funded broadband expansion. Those of you familiar with the previous CAF1, CAF2, and ACAF funding streams understand how it works. It takes time. Using Alaska for an example, the federal government gave us $1,600,000,000 to spend on broadband expansion. Alaska had to come up with a plan, working with the local providers and government agencies as to who got how much. As of the first of the year, only Alaska and Ohio's spending plans had been approved. For Alaska that brought us to the point of scheduling and hopefully getting bids out so material could be purchased (if your not familiar with material logistics, cable and pedestals are over 6-8 months out once ordered) and to then begin construction from there. Hurt a lot of contractors, hurt a lot of communities, hurt a lot of people. My home state of Florida had $1,500,000,000 pulled from them. I take that personal, as I was hoping Bead would generate enough work I could go back home.
